Wild landscapes, coasts, ports and harbours, particularly in the dramatic South West, are my inspiration. Working outside, I respond to the constantly changing light conditions using a fast, reactive style. I use mixed media, pastels and acrylics mainly, to obtain an instant rapport with the changing scene.

As a student at Cardiff College of Art and Goldsmiths in the 70s, I concentrated on abstract painting, but gravitated back to my first love, drawing, and then on to life drawing, portraits and landscapes.

I have often been told my life drawings are like landscapes and this is how I see them too. I respond to characterful faces and go through the same painting process as for landscapes, albeit with different (interior!) lighting.
